I just finished doing some work on my two main websites www.rochieinchina.com and www.myemailcollection.com. On the weekend I found out the Google had not yet crawled my sites, so today I spent all day searching how to get my sites crawled.

How to increase Site Traffic

1st - I downloaded some modules from www.drupal.org to show me my Google page rank and other web stats. The results were not good.

2nd – I found www.alexa.com is a page ranking system, but you need a toolbar downloaded in your browser for the site to pick you up. I found some very good websites describing what to do to improve the sites Alexa rank. This is the site I found www.doshdosh.com. So I installed the Firefox add on and started fixing my site (step 1 done).

Than I went to www.alexa.com/siteowners and created some Alexa widgets for all my sites, putting them in blocks on all my side bars (step 2 done). Then I wrote some text under the blocks hoping people will install the toolbar so when they come to my site it increases my ranking (step 3 done).

3rd – I went to a website called www.DMOZ.org this website is a free open directory which once your site is submitted and accepted. they will post it in their directory and once it’s posted it will be crawled by Google and other search sites. I submitted www.rochieinchina.com to the travel / Asia category and www.myemailcollection.com to the Recreation / Humour/ jokes category.

4th – I had to try and get Google to crawl my sites next, so off to www.google.com/webmasters/ to submit my websites. This was a little painful for me, because the php file for the page template I was inserting the code to was not showing me the code once I refreshed the web browser. After a database cron run it worked fine. I added both my main sites to www.google.com/webmasters/.

5th – I just tweaked up my sites so that the posts have read counts so I can gage what sort of traffic I am getting to my sites. To do this I needed to install a module called views and after some time wasted playing around with that. I finally figured out what was going on in no time had my Latest Posts up and running on this site and also my Latest e-Mails and Most Popular e-Mails Lists running on www.myemailcollection.com.

6th – I created blocks to go in the side bar with all my websites links in them. So hopefully these links turn into back links to help the Google bots find all my websites.

These are the steps that I have taken so far to try to increase traffic and revenue from my sites. I now just have to wait for a few days to a few weeks to find out if the 10 hours I spent in front of the computer have been worth while, if not then I will look at more steps to take in this course of action.

After doing so work I cleaned my apartment than went for a walk to the shops to buy a few things.

Now I must go and do more research on improving page rankings. Also look at creating some profiles on social sites to direct some traffic this way.
